Prof. h.c. PD Dr. Steinwachs's specialist fields
Thanks to many years of research and development work in the field of cartilage and meniscus regeneration and tissue engineering, Prof. h.c. PD Dr. Steinwachs is one of few international specialists in the field of ORTHOBIOLOGY, in which cartilage damage is repaired with the body's own cells, allowing the implantation of prostheses to be dispensed with. Cartilage cell transplants (ACT), osteochondral transplants or stem cell methods are used for this, for example. Professor Steinwachs' other fields of specialism include the surgical treatment of cruciate ligament injuries, meniscal damage and bone diseases. Cutting-edge conservative and operative treatment methods are used in combination with tried-and-tested techniques:
- Cartilage: Cartilage cell transplantation (ACT), osteochondral transplantation, periosteal flap plasty, membrane or periosteal chondroplasty, stem cell methods, micro-fracturing, K-wire bore holes
- Bones: Bone smoothing, bone abrasion, bone curettage, bone transplantation, spongiosaplasty, cartilage-bone transplantation, bone bore holes, bone cyst curettage & filling
- Bone deformities: Corrective osteotomies of the femur and lower limb with osteosynthesis
- Meniscus: Meniscal suturing, partial resections, meniscal stimulation (needling, abrasion, fibrin patch), meniscus transplantation (CMI® collagen meniscus implant, ACTIFIT®)
- Cruciate ligament injuries: Ligamentoplasties of the anterior cruciate ligament with patellar tendon or semitendinosus / gracilis-plasty, joint fixation with resorbable interference screws; surgical treatment of loosened, partially torn or elongated cruciate ligaments, Steadman soft healing response technique
